Every year, millions of perfectly functional laptops and desktops are discarded because they can't run the latest OS update. Slime OS exists to end that cycle.
Slime OS is an open-source, cloud-first operating system designed for device longevity and e-waste reduction. We strip the local hardware down to a secure, featherweight client portal we call "The Membrane", and offload 100% of storage, processing, and application workloads to high-performance cloud infrastructure we call "The Brain".
Our users are everyday consumers, schools, non-profits, and budget-conscious individuals who deserve powerful computing without being forced into perpetual hardware upgrade cycles.
A hardened, minimal Debian Linux core deployed via full-disk-wipe installer. Boots
directly into a secure, read-only kiosk using the cage Wayland compositor.
Zero local user storage. On Android: a custom APK launcher over AOSP/LineageOS —
no bootloader flash required.
User environments live entirely in the cloud. If local hardware loses power, the cloud VM session remains frozen and active in the datacenter. Reconnect from any device and your session restores instantly — down to the exact cursor position. Powered by FreeRDP (client) and xRDP (Linux VMs) or native RDP (Windows VMs).
NLA + TLS 1.3
Network Level Authentication and TLS 1.3 enforced within FreeRDP to prevent DDoS and intercept vectors.
WireGuard VPN
A persistent, lightweight WireGuard tunnel wraps the RDP stream. Datacenter ports remain completely hidden from the public internet.
Identity Gateway
Authelia or Keycloak manages secure tokens and MFA. Lost or stolen hardware? Instantly revoke access remotely.
Slime OS partners with regional data centers, hosting providers, and Telecom operators to monetize their idle edge compute and high-speed 5G/fiber networks. We deliver a consumer Desktop-as-a-Service subscription while providing partners with high-bandwidth utilisation and a compelling Green Tech sustainability story.
For Windows users, we implement a BYOL (Bring Your Own License) workflow — your existing transferable Windows Retail key is mapped to your Slime account. No transferable key? We provision a free, open-source Linux cloud desktop instead.
Slime OS is built on Debian, FreeRDP, xRDP, WireGuard, cage, and Authelia/Keycloak. Every layer is transparent, auditable, and community-driven. The source code is available on GitHub.
