Get Slime OS

Download the installer for your platform. The installer performs a full-disk wipe and sets up a secure, cloud-ready client. Make sure you back up any data first.

Early Access — manual install

Slime OS doesn't have a one-click downloadable installer yet — today it installs on top of a standard Debian 13 netinstall via an automated preseed, or a single script on an existing minimal Debian box. A packaged, one-click installer, and a try-it-first Live USB, are coming soon. Contact us if you'd like help.

x86_64 — Debian preseed, automated install

Option A — fresh machine, no OS yet: flash a Debian 13 netinstall ISO to a USB stick, boot it, then at the GRUB prompt go to Advanced options → Automated install and add this to the boot parameters:

auto=true url=https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mulai/slimeos/main/membrane/preseed/slimeos-bios.preseed.cfg

There are two preseed files — pick the one matching how the board actually boots. If the installer's boot menu shows "(BIOS mode)", or the board predates ~2012 / has no UEFI setup screen, use slimeos-bios.preseed.cfg as shown above. If it booted via UEFI instead, use slimeos.preseed.cfg at that same URL. Using the wrong one for the board's actual boot mode is a common install-time failure.

Option B — you already have a minimal Debian 13 install:

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mulai/slimeos/main/membrane/installer/install.sh | sudo bash

Storage 8 GB (for The Membrane only)
Network Wired or Wi-Fi, 5 Mbps minimum
Display Any — 1024×600 minimum

Android

OS Android 8.0+ (Oreo) or LineageOS

Video streams over a standard connection by default; an opt-in "Faster (beta)" mode (Settings > Display & Sound) uses UDP for smoother playback on weak or busy Wi-Fi. Intel NUC6CAxx (Celeron J3455) devices also get hardware-accelerated video decode automatically — other hardware still decodes in software until it's been tested.

Windows License (BYOL)

Slime OS uses a Bring Your Own License model for Windows cloud desktops. During installation, you'll be prompted to enter your existing 25-digit Windows Retail or Digital license key. This key is mapped to your Slime account and used to activate a dedicated cloud node.

Only transferable Retail keys work. OEM keys tied to specific hardware are not transferable. If you don't have a transferable key, Slime OS automatically provisions a free, open-source Linux cloud desktop instead.
